Statement in Support of Physician and Physician Trainee Unionization Efforts approved by the Philadelphia County Medical Society Board of Directors

Philadelphia County Medical Society (PCMS) supports physician trainees who are actively unionizing in Philadelphia County.  The Society recognizes their efforts to improve working conditions, fair wages, and equitable treatment. Open dialogue and good-faith negotiations between institutions and trainees are essential in fostering a fair and supportive work environment.

The PCMS has long recognized the vital role that physician trainees: medical students, residents, and fellows, play in the healthcare system. As the future of medicine, physician trainees deserve fair working conditions, adequate support, and quality environments to provide optimal patient care.

PCMS stands firmly in support of all physicians and will continue to advocate for their well-being, education, and professional development. By addressing systemic challenges and promoting sustainable solutions, we aim to ensure that trainees receive the support they need to thrive as future leaders in medicine.
