Update 3/4/20: The Hahnemann closure-related nightmare has ended regarding Tail coverage. A federal bankruptcy judge has approved a settlement with Hahnemann’s owners to pay for the long-tail coverage. The settlement, approved in Chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, will also provide the legally required coverage for the 100 attending physicians who lost their jobs when Hahnemann closed in the summer of 2019.
PCMS partnered with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, AMA and others in working toward a resolution for the physicians affected by the closure.
Update 2/20/20: On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, a proposed motion was filed seeking to purchase a full and complete tail insurance coverage policy for all St. Christopher’s and Hahnemann University Hospital personnel who are currently covered under the claims made policy that was set to terminate on March 12, 2020. Impacted are: residents, fellows, and attending physicians. Before this proposal can be finalized and the tail coverage purchased, the motion will need to be approved by the bankruptcy court. A hearing is currently scheduled for March 3, 2020. Please contact PCMS at this link if you have individually purchased your own tail coverage.
Update 1/31/20: Another 30-day extension has been purchased for the current malpractice insurance policy, extending the current policy to approximately March 10, 2020. Click here to download the full communication regarding this extension.
Update 1/8/20: The Philadelphia Academic Risk Group, LLC (PA RRG) medical professional liability (MPL) claims-made policy has been extended. The term now ends on February 11, 2020 at 12:01 AM.
