New Get Philly Program

One of Get Healthy Philly‘s many initiatives is the Breastfeeding Friendly Philadelphia campaign in partnership with Maternity Care Coalition. This campaign aims to provide lactation support programs for working mothers and to encourage hospitals to promote breastfeeding after delivery. An exciting event that supports and promotes breastfeeding is coming to Philadelphia on August 3rd (during World Breastfeeding Week).

Latch on America is a cross-country tour that is highlighting how America is taking action to empower breastfeeding moms.  The tour kicked off July 13 in San Diego and will stop in more than 30 cities across the country including Philadelphia.

A film crew will be documenting cities’ breastfeeding efforts and how they are responding to the 20 action steps outlined in the Surgeon General’s Call To Action to Support Breastfeeding.  Roundtable discussions, meet & greets, visits to workplaces with lactation support programs, visits to Baby Friendly hospitals, conferences, meeting with WIC counselors & lactation consultants, and hearing stories from breastfeeding moms may be among the scheduled events.

The campaign is supported through Milk for Thought, a website aimed at providing resources and support for breastfeeding moms. Ryan Comfort, the creator of Milk for Thought, wanted to create an on-line platform to connect breastfeeding moms with experts and highlight advocacy efforts.
