On June 28 PCMS hosted a reception in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the Public Health efforts headed by the late U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, in the centennial year of his birth. Dr. Koop is renowned for his work with HIV/AIDS. The event was in collaboration with Bebashi-Transition to Hope; Mazzoni Center; Mayors Office of LGBT Affairs; Action Wellness and Philadelphia Fight.

Speakers included Dr. Michael DellaVecchia, immediate past President of the Philadelphia County Medical Society, Dr. Rachel Levine, Physician General of Pennsylvania, Coleman Terrell, Director of the Philadelphia AIDS Activity Office, Al Taubenberger, Councilman-At-Large of the Philadelphia City Council, and Mrs. Cora Koop, spouse of the late Dr. C. Everett Koop.

In addition to the program, throughout the afternoon the Mazzoni Center’s Mobile Testing Unit was located at the PCMS site and made available free HIV testing.
