National Call to Action – Call and Urge Congress to Permanently Repeal the SGR

It’s National Call to Action Day – Do Your Part and Urge Congress to Permanently Repeal the SGR

Last week, lawmakers in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate introduced bipartisan bills – H.R. 1470 and S. 810 – that would permanently repeal the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) Medicare physician payment formula.

With only a week left until the current patch expires, this could finally be the end of the SGR – if physicians make their voices heard and contact their legislators to urge them to pass these bills. Congress is scheduled to recess for a holiday break, so action must be taken by March 26.

Without congressional action, the SGR formula calls for a 21 percent cut when the current short-term patch expires March 31. This is on top of the 2 percent sequestration cut that began in 2013, as well as the penalties physicians may face for nonparticipation in various Medicare programs.

Let your voice be heard. Participate in National Call to Action Day today, March 24, and tell Congress that NOW has to be the time to permanently repeal the flawed SGR formula. NOW is the time to move toward a Medicare program that supports physicians for providing high-quality, patient-centered health care.
